Lab grown
diamonds
What is the difference with a mined diamond?
The answer is simple. There is no difference. Lab grown diamonds are created by exactly the same chemical process as diamonds mined in nature. However it takes nature millions of years, but in the lab the diamond is ‘fully grown’ at 8 to 10 weeks. Even a professional will not be able to tell the difference with the naked eye and needs special equipment and knowledge to tell the difference from the atomic structure. Lab grown diamonds have exactly the same chemical and physical properties as a mined diamond, and they can be processed in exactly the same way.

The production process
Two production methods are required to create the full range of diamonds and colors as found in nature in a lab. Diamonds manufactured with HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) start from a diamond seed that is placed in a carbon-rich environment. Under high pressure and high temperature of 1500 degrees Clesius, the addition of a metal liquid will make every atom and molecule grow. Just like in nature. The CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) method is based on a diamond plate that is placed in an environment with two carbon-containing gases: hydrogen and methane. Above 800 degrees Celsius, a plasma cloud is created that loosens the carbon elements on the diamond plate. Each method offers different grades and colors.
To lab or not to lab?
The high prices of diamonds are determined by the very labour-intensive extraction process and their scarcity. Lab grown diamonds are not scarce and even very rare stones in nature can easily be created in the lab. Lab grown diamonds are therefore more sustainable and more ecologically responsible. And they are cheaper as well. The choice between a mined diamond and a cultured diamond is therefore primarily an emotional and personal consideration.

GIA Certified
diamonds
Purchased diamonds of 0,20 ct + will be accompanied by a GIA certificate.
Your certificate serves as a quality insurance.
Our diamond certificates, also known as a diamond reports, are issued by the GIA, an accredited independent gemological laboratory.
In addition to the diamond’s carat weight and measurements, a GIA certificate includes grades for the diamond’s cut, color and clarity.
